'ART FOR ALL' Inkwashes
"It’s simple, from the very first day we wanted to make Art For All" – Gilbert & George.
This vision remains as vital as ever to Gilbert & George and the creation of their art, of which they are the embodiment.
Created during the opening year of the Centre, each 'ART FOR ALL' Inkwash is individually hand-painted by Gilbert & George meaning each one has its own unique, vibrant characteristics such as heavy brush strokes, ink splatters and gold drips.
'2021' Inkwashes
Created by Gilbert & George in 2021, this suite of 12 Inkwashes features rich, heavy brush strokes depicting blunt and direct exclamations, so often overheard by Gilbert & George in streets, restaurants or whilst travelling.
These Inkwashes incite the viewer or listener to theorise and explore the messages portrayed to them from the artist...
'G AND G' Inkwashes
50 years after creating ‘G & G’ from their ‘DRINKING PIECES - MODERN RUBBISH’ pictures group in 1973, Gilbert & George present a new suite of Inkwashes.
Revisiting the title ‘G & G’, this acronym is used only once as a title in their oeuvre of pictures.
Each edition (of 50) in this suite has been individually hand-painted by Gilbert & George – with each Inkwash featuring distinctive, lively and unique brushwork and colourful lettering on 400 gsm watercolour paper.
'Royal' Inkwashes
To commemorate and celebrate the accession of Charles III to the throne, Gilbert & George created suite of eight Royal Inkwashes.
The luscious, individually hand-painted, with rich, heavy brushstrokes in a palette of red, white, blue and gold, depict exclamations associated with the monarchy.
Each of the eight designs is in an edition size of 50. Every Royal Inkwash is individually created with unique characteristics, numbered and hand signed by Gilbert & George.
The White Prints
To celebrate the opening of The Gilbert & George Centre, Gilbert & George created a suite of 21 fine art Limited Editions - THE WHITE PRINTS.
Each title within the suite is an edition of 50, with subjects ranging from KISSMET to CRUCIFICTION.
All proceeds benefit the Centre ensuring its door remains open to everyone with no ticket or entry fee, furthering Gilbert & George's vision of an ‘Art For All’.
